Olga Kalinina grew up in a small town in southern Russia and moved to
Moscow to pursue her studies. After receiving a Ph.D. in chemistry in
1991 at Moscow State University, she spent several years teaching
undergraduate students at the Moscow Petrochemistry Academy. In 1994,
Olga left for the U.S., where she worked as a visiting scientist at
George Washington University in Washington, DC, as well as the National
Institutes of Health in Maryland. In 1996, she moved to Canada, where
she and her husband obtained citizenship. After five years of
post-doctoral research at the chemistry department of the University of
Toronto, Kalinina decided to pursue a deep interest in law. In 2004,
she graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Western
Ontario and was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2005.
